Bowed love

Bowed love

He gave.

Yet,

he bowed.

He offered to help people on the street who most likely, weren’t sure of where they would sleep that night. He didn’t even know they were angels because they appeared like all the other men who had passed the road that day.

He didn’t stop at washing their feet. He welcomed them into his home, fed them like kings, and ensured they were okay.

His name was Lot.

Imagine just taking small breeze in front of your house and you see these tired-looking, hunger-stricken, dirty men walking. Especially in a place like Sodom and Gomorrah, that must have been a somewhat difficult thing to do. Considering the fact that there were many bad guys around, I would never do it if I were Lot.

He welcomed them, offered them food and not just any kind of food. I’ll equate it to an Ekiti man offering his visitor pounded yam and isapa soup. It is food meant for distinguished guests. That wasn’t the end of it. He opened up his home to them as well. In these days of kidnapping and banditry? Jesus be a fence o😂😂

Whatever he thought that could go wrong, he sure put them away while making his decision to welcome them or not.

Something that stands out to me in this story?

I’ll tell you.

He was obviously doing them a favour by attending to their needs. Yet, he did it with so much servitude. He washed their feet! This was a task usually reserved for servants. We see how Jesus did the same for his disciples, explaining to them that anyone who wants to be the greatest, must first be a servant.

Really good that in the end, There was a form of reward. Even if there wasn’t, I’m pretty sure that he’ll still have been as welcoming as he was.

Can I be as much as that? I honestly can’t say cos the streets are not smiling at all. In spite of whatever the world has become, the word of God still remains the truth. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.

Lot wasn’t the only one. Abraham too. He entertained angels without knowing. He was just being his hospitable self.

So when we pray for angelic visitations, let’s be prepared to receive them, receive them well even when they certainly don’t look like it. May we be prepared to give when we see them as the boy on the street begging for alms, the homeless man prepared to sleep in the rain with a place to lay his head for the night, the girl scared to go back home because of how she has constantly been abused.

When we meet them and do good to them, may we not be quick to record videos on our phones and show the world how nice we are, may we not be manipulative; making them pay for the favour we have shown, even when we know how helpless they are. May we truly be proof that the love of God has been shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.
