I grew up in a camp where we hardly heard the sound of vehicle horns. Everywhere was always very serene. People usually came to the camp for personal retreat as it guaranteed their total avoidance of noise. I lived thirteen years of my life there with my family.
By the time my dad finished building our own house and we moved, it was to another quiet environment as we were the only ones living on the street (it was a really rural area mehn…….. lol). I also attended a tertiary institution located in a village so again, no noise. Besides, I grew up in a home with parents who don’t like noise to the extent that the TV volume was always regulated.
However, for a little over two months, I’ve been in Lagos. Lagos? Yeah, this same Lagos. For the first few times I had to go out, I almost got scared because It appeared everyone was running from nowhere to nowhere. I actually thought they were running from danger.
In short, these days, there is noise all around us. From the conductor shouting at a passenger to pay him to a mother shouting at her child, a trader negotiating , to an employer rebuking his or her employee. There is so much noise everywhere and sometimes in the bid to run away from all of these noises, we make more noise.
Starting from our minds, there are noises always telling us what we’re not. Noise form voices that only remind us of our past, memories we never wanted to visit, Voices shouting out our flaws, screaming at our mistakes. Please dear friend, Don’t make the mistake of listening to them. My Bible tells me Faith come by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Let the word of God be your filter.
Also, As much as possible, preserve your peace. Stay away from anything that does not align with what the word of God says about you. Remember you have the power to control the exposure of your mind to edifying or corruptible thoughts. You are the best of you.
